Performer Guidelines—Asheville Fringe Arts Festival 2012

  1. The festival will provide you with a venue. You will be notified of your assigned venue and performance schedule on or before January 4, 2012. Your performance schedule will include anywhere from 1 to 4 performances.
  2. The festival will provide you with professional technicians. Festival or venue staff will contact you to inform you of your scheduled technical rehearsal.
  3. The Asheville Fringe Arts Festival does not charge any application or performance fees for participation in the festival.
  4. You will receive a comp ticket for one FREE admission to another festival show of your choice, if you are willing, you can give that comp to anyone you like.
  5. The festival does not pay monetary commission/honorarium to performers in the 2012 festival. We hope maybe this will change, but this is the present situation because of low ticket prices and not much sponsorship dollars. We are a lean non-profit organization.
  6. Information about your act will be published on the festival website and in the festival programs.
  7. The festival will provide publicity (radio interviews, posters, mailings, newspaper articles, etc) for the festival.
  8. Your photographic or video image will be captured for use as marketing material for the festival.
  9. You will be an honored guest at the festival’s closing party, Sunday, 1/22/2012 at the Greenlight Cafe/Bobo Gallery on Lexington Avenue.

Our expectations of performers:

  1. The festival is only accepting applications for performance work that is 20 minutes or less in length.
  2. Applicants must show their work (or fully present their concept) at an adjudication session on Sunday, November 20 or Monday, November 21, 2011. Festival staff will notify you regarding acceptance into the festival on or before December 16, 2011.
  3. Performers (or their representative) will attend a mandatory performer’s meeting on Sunday, January 15 from 6-7pm at the BeBe Theatre.
  4. Performers will be available (and flexible) on the evenings of Monday, January 16 through Wednesday, January 18 for technical/dress rehearsals. Your technical rehearsal will be one of these 3 nights. You will be notified of your assigned rehearsal day/time by Monday, January 9..
  5. Performers will be available for performances from 6pm to 11pm, Thursday, January 19 through Saturday, January 21 and for performances from 2pm to 6pm, Sunday, January 22, unless otherwise cleared with festival staff.
  6. Performers will provide their own costumes, music, props, etc.
  7. If your show contains many internal cues (i.e. changes in lights, sound, video during your performance), you will need to provide a technician who knows your show and can work with the house technician during rehearsals and performances.
  8. Performers will send festival staff a small (under 50 word) biography and credits as they wish to be listed in the program by Friday, January 7 (email to info@ashevillefringe.org). Please also send any available photos that we may use in newspaper and magazine articles.
  9. We encourage you to spread the word about the festival in any way you can. We will have flyers and schedules available for distribution in January. Your help brings you a bigger audience.
  10. Performers will have a great time and really take advantage of the opportunity to stretch artistically! We also hope that performers will watch other performances with an eye for potential collaborations for next year!

Acceptance of a performance spot in the Asheville Fringe Arts Festival indicates that you have read and agree to the above guidelines.
